S E ESSEX ‘CULTURE KITCHEN’ EVENT TO CELEBRATE WORLD FOOD DAY OCTOBER 16th 2010

S E ESSEX ‘CULTURE KITCHEN’
EVENT TO CELEBRATE WORLD FOOD DAY OCTOBER 16th 2010

We  have started planning a ‘Culture Kitchen’ event to mark World Food Day 2010 on October 16th and would like to recruit anyone who is interested in joining in the  planning. Our next meeting is on Sunday April 25th and if you’d like to join in please phone Carol on 01702 342148

BACKGROUND TO THE EVENT –

The Women’s Environmental Network is a national organisation which  promotes sustainable living and access to environmental health and security for all and has a long history of educating women and families on many issues including food-growing and access to growing space, climate change and carbon footprinting

As part of their campaign to encourage local food production and social integration, the WEN national foods campaigner is planning a series of three celebratory events that will bring together urban food growers of different religions, cultural and ethnic backgrounds to share their ideas for and
experiences of food growing and enjoy a shared meal produced from the fruits of their plots. We’d also like to provide an opportunity to discuss and address the issue of accessing fresh, healthy and affordable food in their areas, through food growing and other means. It is expected that these activities will enable people from a variety of backgrounds to come together around shared local issues, sharing skills and ideas over a community meal.

Three events are planned for Eastern England – in Yarmouth, in Ipswich and in S E Essex.

S E ESSEX EVENT

With just six months to go, we are in the early days of planning and have had a preliminary meeting when we decided to ask other local groups if they
would like to join us in organising the event. Shared ideas and shared energies should make for a wonderful day!

The structure of the day is very flexible, although it is expected that it will be very informal, celebratory and with the focus of the day on the shared lunch much of which will come from our own home-grown produce. A sort of day-long party really!
