On
Sunday 18th July, the Eden Project asks the British people to sit down
to lunch with their neighbours, in their street, a nearby park or a
playground, to celebrate what makes their communities great.

Southend Borough Council is offering assistance to neighbours who would like to organise street parties, and hopes to help them get to know each other and share a fantastic day together.

Last
year, Big Lunch events took place across Southend, with neighbours
eating lunch in their streets, playing music, and decorating their
streets. The events reflected Southend residents’ open and friendly
attitudes to their neighbours, with many cultures and age groups taking
part.

Southend Council is committed to supporting residents in
joining the party, and offers funding to help residents pay for
insurance and road closures for the events.

For more information on holding a Big Lunch event in Southend, call Ashley Jarvis on 01702 215538, or email ashleyjarvis@southend.gov.uk.

To
register your event and get support and guidance on running your event
contact the Council events team on 01702 534360 or visit the Council’s
website at www.southend.gov.uk

The
deadline for applications for BIG LUNCH events is 5pm Friday 4th June
2010. Applications received after this date may not be able to go ahead
in public areas and in any event will not be eligible for road closure
costs or reimbursement of insurance policies.
