Editorial: What a wonderful feeling to come back in 2014 to compiling the newsletter listing so many fantastic individuals, groups, projects, events and organisations. It gives me hope and inspiration to continue working on Southend in Transition in the year to come. I hope it energizes you as well. Have a great 2014.

 

Southend in Transition, is a group of local residents supporting a personal and community level Transition to a more localised, happy and resilient lifestyle. We are part of an international network of 462 official initiatives and 654 Muller initiatives in 43 countries

 

Have a look at what we are working on and support local projects by attending events, bring your friends and families and volunteer.

Southend in Transition:

  • Transition Drinks Thur 30/01, 27/02, 27/03 19:00 CHANGE OF VENUE to Olde Trout Tavern

  • Transition Potluck 08/03, 12/04 12-15 Growing Together, corner of Fairfax Drive/Prittlewell Chase, no Potluck 22/02 and 10/05 as we take part respectively in Seed Potato Day and the Trust Links May Fayre

Essex Bees – bee hive renting, adoption, training to bee-come a beekeeper,

 

Cycle Southend events and training

  • Blokes with Spokes! Monday evenings 6.30pm from Chalkwell Park. It’s not about how fast you can go its about time in the saddle!

  • Tuesday Riders: Meeting at 9.00 at Southchurch park cafe, Shaftesbury Avenue entrance for a leisurely ride and return.

  • Women’s Wednesday riders: 6.15pm from Western approaches Community Centre.

  • Sunday Cyclers: Weekly leisurely group leaving Priory Park Bandstand at 10.00. Bring some change with you as we often stop for a cuppa or an ice-cream!

  • We also have our spin-off groups; For Mountain Bikers we have Muckers at 9.00am and Mighty muckers (for children) at 2pm on Saturdays. Monday Morning Mums road ride @ 9.15am. For up to date arrangements check out their very own Facebook pages, as they are independent to Cycle Southend.

  • Re-cycle centre to drop off your old bike and pick up a new-old bike:)

  • Cycle training is also available for both Adults and Children.

  • Ideas in Motion – Sustainable Travel Programme in Southend on Sea

Southend Solar Network

Roger, Duncan and Pete need some more founder members for the new Southend Solar Network – an online community of rooftop solar households for exchange of experiences, ideas, and news about solar generation, optimisation, usage optimisation, etc.

Electric Vehicle charging point: The EV community now have a FREE recharging point in Southend, albeit limited to overnight and weekends only by appointment, for reasons of cost (mine)

 

Echo: Mussle Beds boost for Leigh – a group of Leigh fishermen wants to establish beds along Southend seafront to harvest the native blue mussels.
